Throw These Toxic Bathroom Items Away To Protect Your Health

Bathroom Health Hazards

While our bathrooms help us stay clean, they can also have things that are bad for our health. Board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Sethi, says there are three things we really need to get rid of to protect our health every day.

Germ Breeding Grounds

These common bathroom items can quickly become places where lots of tiny germs grow. These germs can make you sick and weaken your body's defense system. Luckily, these are things we can easily replace.

Time to Toss Your Old Brush

Most people use their toothbrushes for way too long, more than three or four months. Dr. Sethi says we should get a new one even sooner if the little brush parts look worn out or if we've been sick. A fresh brush is important for keeping your mouth healthy and clean every day.

Worn Bristles Can't Clean Well

When the little brush parts on your toothbrush get old and bent, they just don't clean your teeth properly. This means that tiny germs can stay on your teeth and gums and start to build up. Using a fresh toothbrush with firm bristles is much better for keeping your mouth healthy.

Old Brushes Grow Bad Stuff

Studies have shown that old toothbrushes can become homes for lots of tiny germs. These germs can cause problems like swollen gums (gingivitis) and sores in your mouth (stomatitis). In rare cases, they can even lead to more serious heart problems.

Dull Razors = Sore Skin

Another thing Dr. Sethi says to throw away right away is old, dull razors. He says these can make your skin really red and sore, way more than a sharp razor. Using a fresh, sharp blade helps the razor, reduces irritation and gives you a much more comfortable shave every time.

Cuts and Germs Love Dull Blades

When you try to shave with a blade that's not sharp, you have to press harder, which can easily cause small cuts and bumps under your skin. These cuts can then become places where germs can get in and cause infections.

Some Mouthwash Hurts Good Germs

Dr. Sethi also warns against using mouthwash that kills all the germs in your mouth. He explains that studies suggest this kind of mouthwash can also harm the good germs that live in your mouth. These good germs are actually important for keeping a healthy balance.

Messing with Your Gut

These strong mouthwashes can mess up the good germs in your mouth, which can then affect how your body takes in all the good stuff from your food. Some research even suggests it might stop you from getting important things your body needs.

Talk to Your Dentist

If you use this kind of strong mouthwash, or if your dentist told you to, it's a good idea to talk to them if you're worried. They know a lot about your mouth and can help you decide what kind of mouthwash is really the best and safest for you to use every day.
