Scientists have discovered a new drug-resistant fungus, Candida auris, posing a serious threat to global public health. This new clade of Candida auris kills up to 60% of those it infects and is highly transmissible, causing severe illness, especially in vulnerable hospital patients. Some cases may be asymptomatic, but others can experience fever, chills, low blood pressure, and a rash. Public Health England reports it can also lead to bloodstream, wound, and ear infections.
