Dengue Alert In Gurugram, Over 175 Cases Reported

Is <a href="https://www.healthandme.com/health/dengue">Dengue</a> on the rise again? Gurugram has reported 175 confirmed cases of dengue till Friday this year so far. The health department carried out several measures and awareness programmes to curb dengue cases. However, these steps have not yet shown any positive results as the number of dengue cases has only increased.

The authorities have noted that patients who were diagnosed with dengue and malaria complained of high fever sweating, headache, vomiting, abdominal pain, muscle pain and traces of blood in their stool. The data as per the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and district health department reveal that the highest number of dengue cases are from Om Nagar, Kadipur, Anjana Colony and Manesar.

The experts note that dengue haemorrhagic fever starts in June and lasts till mid-December.

Dengue virus is transmitted only through the bites of infected Aedes mosquitos. Mosquitoes are most active two hours after sunrise and immediately before nightfall, making them ideal for dengue transmission. Dengue is not transmitted directly from person to person. However, if a mosquito bites an infected person within the first week of their sickness, the insect can spread the virus to others. Dengue fever can be transmitted from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth in rare situations.

Aedes mosquitos lay their eggs in stagnant water, therefore any container or puddle around the house, such as plant pots, old tyres, or even bottle caps, could be used as breeding grounds. Limiting standing water in and around your home is critical for mosquito control.

Dengue symptoms might be confused with those of other prevalent diseases, making diagnosis difficult. Symptoms of an infected mosquito bite often show within 4-10 days and remain for 2-7 days. High fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting, and skin rash are frequent symptoms of dengue infection.

The officials have informed that they are taking control spread of the disease through awareness campaigns, SMS, fogging, and setting up separate dengue wards in hospitals.
