Vidya Balan is the latest in the list of actors who have opened up about their weight loss journey. In a recent interview, she spoke about how despite a regular exercise regime and balanced diet, she struggles with weight gain. The reason? Inflammation is, the body's natural response to fight a foreign agent or a damaged tissue. While inflammation is caused by weight gain, it usually happens when your body does not get enough recovery time after vigorous exercise. What Is Inflammation? In simple words, inflammation is body's natural response to injury or infection. It not only helps protect and heal tissue but can become chronic of prolonged, leading to diseases like diabetes, heart conditions and arthrities. Several facotrs like obesity and poor diet can exacerbate inflammation.Health experts underscore that obesity is a major cause of internal inflammation. It is because of the excess white fat cells in the body which produce a specific chemical called cytokines. This chemical is usually produced as a part of the body's immune response but in the case of obesity, they are produced excessively. This abnormal production leads to chronic, low-level inflammation that can affect multiple organs.Where Is The Problem? While it may be normal for many, those with higher Body Mass Index (BMI), especially above 24.5, are more likely to show elevated makrers of inflammation, such as C-reactive protein (CRP). These molecules directly increase health problems like diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease, and even impact vital organs like the pancreas, heart, and kidneys. Can Excessive Exercise Lead To Inflammation? While regular exercise is beneficial for health, excessive exercise can lead to chronic inflammation in the body, particularly in cases of overtraining or when the body does not have enough time to recover. This leads to a hinderence in weight loss. However, in this case, it is advised to consume a diet full of non-inflammatory food items like nuts, avocado, turmeric, and olive oil amongst others.Excessive exercise may also elevate cortisol levels, a hormone associated with stress and inflammation, which can disrupt the body’s natural healing process. Over time, this can lead to conditions such as tendonitis, joint inflammation, and even impairments in immune function.
