Known as India’s OG supermodel, Milind Soman at the age of 59, still maintains his physique, seemingly defying age! Milind recently completed a remarkable feat, running 240 kilometres in just five days. Contrary to popular belief, his fitness regimen doesn't involve intensive gym workouts or strict diets. "I do not use any health tracker app," he says in an exclusive interview with Health And Me. He emphasises the importance of practical logic and common sense in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. “I have been involved in fitness activities since a very very young age, for the last 50 years, since I was 9 years old in competitive swimming. The kind of experience that I've had and the kind of learning I got, it made me understand what I need to do. So, I do not wish to do anything more than that.” Milind stresses the importance of exercise and any sort of physical activity even if it is for 8-10 minutes a day. His determination and excitement towards living a healthy life along with his loved ones show that you need motivation to do the work, not a specialised trainer or nutritionist. “I understand my weaknesses and my strengths. Because I know my body and identify my weaknesses, I only work on those, whether its physical, mental, or emotional.”If you are healthy, every food is healthyEven when it comes to his love for Indian food, Milind expresses that he believes, “if you are healthy every food is healthy” He explains that if your body functions well, then your body will take what it needs and throws away the rest. He acknowledges that this is all good when we are talking about whole foods, home-cooked meals etc., but when it comes to processed food it becomes a bit difficult. Milind's Advice? Minimise the consumption of refined, processed and junk food and focus on eating home-cooked, natural and healthy foods more. “I eat a lot of fruits, vegetables. You must understand what is best for you and focus on that then it becomes easier,” he says.Even though many people might assume so, Milind expresses that he never had a diet or a dietician or any experts to tell him what to do. He says that he takes care of his health and fitness all by himself. "Once you do that, you can figure out what is the best food your body needs.”
