It is a mineral that is commonly used in our foods and consists of a mineral sodium, 98% of its weight. It is produced by evaporating salt water or extracting solid salt from underground salt mines. 

Once, the regular salt is dried, it undergoes refining processes to remove any impurities and iodine is added to prevent iodine deficiency. The best way to consume iodine is through salt, because we consume salt in every food item, which means every time you use salt, you are consuming iodine. 

It is also called the Himalayan salt and is sourced from Khewra Salt Mine near the Himalayas. It has a distinctive pink colour that comes from the <span>minerals</span> it has. It is produced in the world's oldest and largest salt mine. It contains 84 different minerals and trace elements, with iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and copper. 

Many also associate it with weight loss as it eliminates excess cellular fluid. Other benefits these minerals help are muscle cramp management and improved blood circulation. 

While from the minerals pink salt contains, it may seem like it is the healthier option. However, the amount of salt that we consume is very small and unlikely to impact our overall mineral intake. To equalise the benefits, one has to consume a large amount of pink salt to actually notice the benefits, which means a large amount of sodium chloride too is entering your body. This means that you might be putting yourself at risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver damage, osteoporosis, and kidney diseases. 

Pink salt is also not iodised, this means that your iodine intake may fall leading to iodine deficiency a thyroid issues. 

Whereas the iodine in white salt is important for thyroid function and the consumption is enough to protect against any iodine deficiency. Individuals are only supposed to consume 1,500 mg of sodium per day while consuming salt.
