The Gurugram health department has issued an alert about a potential outbreak of Mpox in the district. As of now, there have been no cases of the viral disease in India, however, several states remain on high alert. Meanwhile, in their advisory, Gurugram authorities urged residents to exercise caution, particularly those returning from international travel."Any patient presenting with Mpox-like symptoms must be reported to our office immediately. A nodal officer has been appointed to oversee the situation, and public awareness efforts regarding the disease are underway. If any person exhibits symptoms such as fever, rashes, or swollen lymph nodes, they should be isolated from the general population. Samples must be sent for testing, and treatment should be initiated promptly,” said Dr Virender Yadav, Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This comes a day after the Haryana Health Department directed all districts in the state to be on high alert and ramp up screening for Mpox. It also called for isolation facilities and the appointment of nodal officers for efficient patient management. Furthermore, all districts were told to ensure the availability of essentials equipment, sample transport material, PPE, gloves etc. "The risk of a large outbreak with sustained transmission is low in India. However, the possibility of a few imported cases is not completely ruled out," the health department said.India On High Alert For MpoxThe Indian government has issued a high alert across the country's airports, ports, and borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan in response to the growing global spread of Mpox.
